For the past two weeks we have been making Ruru art (Owl art).
We looked at John Bevan Ford's art. He is a New Zealand artist. He paints birds and hills. Inside the birds and hills he draws Maori patterns. We decided to have a go.
First we drew the ruru. Then we used dye and blended it so it would look like John Bevan Ford's art. When it was dry, we vivided it and added Maori patterns. We made the eyes black because that's what he did.
I found it easy to choose colours because we had good colours to choose from in the dye trays.
I found it hard to finish it on time because I did a lot of skinny lines. The more lines you have, the longer it takes to do the patterns on it.
I would like to learn more about John Bevan Ford and do more art like him because I had fun making the ruru.
Which New Zealand artist do you like? Why?
