Haast Eagle Report
This week we have been writing a report about an extinct animal.
We had to pick an extinct New Zealand animal I chose the Haast's Eagle we had the
research the description, habitat, diet and threats.
Our success criteria was to sequence ideas in order, stick to one topic and each
paragraph and use line breaks between paragraphs.
I found it easy to find information about the Haast's Eagle.
Here is my Haast's Eagle report.
Description
The Haast’s Eagle belongs to the Accipitridae family.
They're colours are reddish, brown, white, yellowish, and purplish. It had dark feathers
with white or cream tips. They had a wingspan of 3 metres which is the taller than
the roof of my house. They were 1.4 metres in size and weighed up to 8 kgs.
Habitat
They lived in the South Island, forests and marsh lands. The bones have not been found anywhere else throughout New Zealand. Haast's Eagle bones have been found
at dozens of sites in the South Island and one on Stewart Island.
Diet
They ate everything because they were at the top of the food chain.
Threats
Their threats are human impact and habitat loss.
Did you know a Haast's Eagles claw is 11 cm long that is as long as a warwick highlighter.
