I found it easy to write the explanation because I had a lot of information to use.
I found it tricky to reflect on my learning.

What is Matariki?
Matariki is the start of Maori New Year - the time to celebrate new life and remember those who have passed away. It is also time to harvest the crops.
The 9 stars of Matariki
They used to think there were were seven stars.
A Maori astronomer Dr Rangi Matamua found out that there were 9 stars.
Each star means something about our world and us.
Matariki
Matariki is the star that means reflection, hope and is a connection to the environment and the gathering of people. Matariki is also connected to the health and wellbeing of people.
Pohutukawa
Pohutukawa is the star connected to those that have passed away.
Waiti
Waiti is connected to freshwater creatures, lakes and rivers.
Waita
Waita is linked with the ocean, and and seafood in it.
Waipuna-a-Rangi
Waipuna-a-Rangi is connected to the the rain water.
Tupuanuku
Tupuanuku is connected with everything that grows in the ground and needs to be harvested and gathered.
Tupuarangi
Tupuarangi is connected was everything that grows in trees like birds, fruit and berries.
Ururangi
Ururangi is the star connected with the wind.
Hiwa-i-te-Rangi
Hiwa-i-te-Rangi is the star that you make a wish on for the year to come. These are the vegetables that they harvest and Matariki
