Goal Setting Review

It's nearly the end of the year so we have had another look at the goals we set. We learnt today that Sir Peter Blake took 4 tries to achieve his goal and that took him 17 years. I'm glad it didn't take me that long!
Have you done gola setting before?

Ice Candles

Yesterday we made Ice Candles for Science because our topic Changes.

Step 1: we cut off the top of the old milk carton.
Step 2: we poured a bit of oil in the carton and used our hands to smear it on the sides so the candle wouldn't stick.
Step 3: we melted old candles.
Step 4: we got a long skinny candle and put it in the carton.
Step 5: we put the ice around the long skinny candle.
Step 6: we poured the melted candle wax into the carton.
Step 7: we let it set overnight.
Step 8: we ripped them open.
When we ripped it open the melted ice was dripping out of the holes because the hot wax had melted the ice but slow enough to leave holes in the wax. When we light it, the wax will melt and pour out of the holes in the candle.
Have you ever made Ice Candles?

November Reflection

November was a fun month. We did science experiments about changes. We also went to a nature reserve and walked up a big hill to see the view. At the top of the hill there was a pit. In the olden days they lit it to warn people of danger. We went to camp and did a lot of things! We did rock climbing, high ropes, sling shot paintball, rope maze, frisbee golf and looked at the mud pools. It's been great to reflect on our month.

Spooky House

This week for reading we were reading a book called spooky house. We had to create a spooky house.

What dose it mean to infer? infer means read between the lines and find the clues and be a detective. In the book the movers asked the family if they have the right house because it has been for sale for a long time and a crazy old scientist died there.

I found an easy to create the house, because on the class site it has a picture of what we might make.

I found it hard to pick a design for the house.

Here is the spooky house.

Parihaka

We have been learning about Parihaka. The pakeha soldiers were taking the Maori land and selling it. The Maori people baked the soldiers bread and the children sang and did poi dancing to welcome them. But the soldiers just walked past and burnt down the whole village and destroyed their crops.

We had to think about how the soldiers felt and use a google tool to show our thinking. Kharn and I chose wevideo we were having problems so I can't put the Wevideo on my blog but here is the link to Kharns blog

Thank You Letters

This week for writing we had to write thank you letters to the people who went on camp

Our success criteria was to use three paragraphs and have the correct setting out. It was easy to choose Pete to write to because I had a lot to thank him for.

Have you ever been on camp and did you write thank you letters?

Dear Pete,

I am writing to you to thank you for coming on camp. You are a fun group leader and fun to be around.

I really enjoyed the High Ropes because I had never done it before. It was a cool experience because you were really high and could see a lot of the native bush. When we first got there, I didn’t think I would be able to do it but everybody was very encouraging. I liked being lowered down because it felt like you were in an action movie. The downside was the massive wedgie!

So thank you Pete for coming on camp. You are amazing!

October Reflection

It was the end of the month so we reflected on our busy October. The thing I am most proud of is my Reading because I am reading more than I used to. I really enjoyed camp because it was a nice time to spend with friends and teachers.

What have you been doing during October?
